Facebook owned Instagram gets two new features, live video broadcasts and vanishing direct messagesFacebook owned Instagram gets two new features, live video broadcasts and vanishing direct messages. Instagram in a blog post said that Instagram users can now send anything they want, from jokes to selfies. Unlike other messaging platforms, photos, videos and texts in Instagram will disappear from the receiver’s inbox once he/she has seen them.

These latest updates of Instagram aim to make the platform look more casual and quirky. Instagram developers did not want to see the platform as one meant for only sharing life highlights or polished posts that are meant to remain forever. Users can also send disappearing photos and videos directly not only to individual friends, but also to groups spontaneously.

This live broadcast option in Instagram is very similar to Facebook Live feature. It is also considered to be a challenge to Twitter’s real-time video streaming. This fun with photos and videos including instant disappearing of videos can be considered to be a counter-move to those features offered in "filters" at vanishing message service Snapchat.
