Small on size,big on taste

Kitskos ('fast food' in afrikaans) is a new blink-and-miss joint in Lower Parel. Drop in for a wrap and chilled lemon iced tea when you can squeeze in a snack break on a working day The commercial district of Lower Parel gets yet another snack joint, and the professionals who slog in glass-fronted towers around, aren't complaining. Kitskos (the word means 'fast food' in Afrikaans, a West Germanic language spoken widely in South Africa and Namibia), is a hole-in-the-wall, really, so be alert when you go looking for it the first time around. A glowing yellow board might help you locate the takeaway joint that has no space to offer seating, although a couple of counters act as hand and plate-rests, so you can grab a quick bite between work. The display case is stocked with goodies ranging from club sandwiches to wraps and rolls. Kitskos is manned by its proprietor, twenty four year-old Rohan Nate, a hotel management graduate who has experience at The Oberoi and in the US on his resum ufffd. The Chilli Paneer Schezwan Bun Roll (Rs 35) and Cold Coffee (Rs 25) make a good couple. The order is conveyed to the kitchen staff through a hole in the wall, literally. Fellow egg lovers are in for a treat; Kitskos offers a delectable Egg Wich (Rs 35), made by dipping bread slices in beaten eggs, topped with finely chopped tomato and sprinkled over with chaat masala. Their Cheesy Veggie Sausage (Rs 35) is a 'vegetarian' sausage (if such a thing exists) made from carrot and potatoesu00a0-- not a patch of the original sausage, but nevertheless tasty in its own right. Kitskos also offers value-for-money combos. For Rs 60 (veg) and Rs 75 (non-veg), you enjoy a meal that includes a Wrap, Iced Tea and a portion of Fries. The Prawn Spring Roll (Rs 65) was loaded with cabbage, carrots and maize seeds. The prawns were jumbo-sized but that didn't make the roll a hit. The Chicken Tawa Wrap (Rs 50), on the other hand, was a winneru00a0-- pieces of tender chicken marinated in a blend of spices. If you are famished, go for the Kitskos Special Club Sandwich (Rs 65), a combination of chicken, egg and vegetables.
