And the newly opened eatery Biryani Ghar on Mosque Road is proof enough to that assumption. According to the owner, the shop is open everyday till stocks last as the home-made biryani has already become popular with foodies in and around the locality. With a small seating arrangement, this restaurant serves only biryani. And claims that the biryani is good enough to be served only with raita and the traditional baingan ka salan and thus there are no side dishes on the menu.We stopped by at Biryani Ghar late one evening and were lucky enough to reach there just when it was about to shut shop. We were also in a hurry and thus settled for a takeaway. Unfortunately, only Mutton Biryani large (Rs 160) and Phirni (Rs 20) were available and we decided to make our tummies happy with the available options. However, Biryani Ghar also offers chicken biryani, veg biryani and also flavoured rice for all those who love the aromatic rice but without meat or vegetables.The Mutton Biryani was prepared in typical South Indian style and had small grained rice unlike the long grained basmati used in the North Indian version.u00a0But surprisingly the biryani had potatoes like Kolkata biryani of the Awadhi style. The spicy potato paired well with tender chunks of meat and added to the flavour of the fragrant rice. The rice is not too oily or spicy but teases the tongue with the hint of whole spices and gives a home cooked feel. Both the salan and the raita were nothing to write home about. However, despite the biryani being tasty, it was the phirni that stole the show. The chilled creamy rice-based dessert served in a matka and garnished with cashew and pista was neither too sweet nor heavy and was a perfect ending to our meal.There is nothing that will strike you about Biryani Ghar in terms of the cuisine that it serves. However, if you love traditional, homemade South Indian biryani, then this eatery will strike a chord with you. Also, for all those sudden parties at home and those days when you don't want to cook, you can trust this restaurant for it promises to deliver hot and tasty biryani at your doorstep within a three kilometer radius.
