You know it is a party when Dire Straits play on stage, and it was no different when Mel Collins, Phil Palmer, Danny Cummings and Alan Clark, members of the legendary British rock band came together to perform in Mumbai earlier this month

Known for their iconic guitar riffs and classic rock sound, the sang and played some of the biggest hits including including `Walk of Life`, `Sultans of Swing`, `Money for Nothing``Romeo and Juliet`, `Tunnel of Love`, and `Brothers in Arms`

Titled `Dire Straits Legacy`, the performance at Phoenix Marketcity Kurla saw the four members of the iconic band play their hearts out in India for the very first time, giving old timers and youngsters a chance to enjoy their music but not without jiving to their hits. Interestingly, Mark Knopfler and other members have performed earlier as `The Dire Straits Experience` in 2005 and 2017 respectively

The band, which was formed in 1977 by one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Mark Knopfler and his brother David, along with John Illsey, and Pick Withers, is known for many hits including `Sultans of Swing` from their very first album `Dire Straits`

At a time when Mumbai is witnessing some of the biggest global bands come to the city, Dire Straits has started the month and year on a high, as Mumbai is also set to witness Linkin Park and among other bands at Lollapalooza India 2026 later this month
