Berlin-based DJ Sarah Farina, is currently touring India, talks music and being a woman DJ
Q. You are currently on tour in Asia. Tell us a bit about your experience.
A. The experience has been mind-blowing so far. My gigs at Cakeshop in Seoul and at Dada in Beijing were so much fun. The people showed me a lot of love and all this means so much to me — travelling the world, bringing people together through music, spreading positive vibes. I’m also realising more and more what an amazing universal language music is. And right now, I’m in Kuala Lumpur and staying at the wonderful Dusun hotel in the jungle. It’s one of the most wonderful places I’ve ever been to.
Q. What are your thoughts on the current scene of the Electronic music industry?
A. It’s interesting how artistes from mainstream music and underground music are starting to mix. Just think of collaborations like the Brainfeeder family featuring Kendrick Lamar or grime MC Skepta featuring A$AP Nast. Through the Internet, things are developing more quickly and way more people have access to new sounds than before and I think that’s great. But I also hope it’s not all just hype and that there are actually people who want to get to know the culture behind the music too.
Farina performs in Pune on May 15
