Theatre is a great medium, especially to teach children and help them understand the classics.  As part of an initiative by Swatantra Theatre, titled Rabi Sansaar, children will be performing a play based on Rabindranath Tagore's classic stories such as Kabuliwala, Home Coming, Exercise Book, My Lord, The Baby and Masterji.

Children aged five to 14 will be performing in these plays. “We are commemorating Tagore's 154th anniversary. What can be better for children to do during these holidays than to learn more about the First Nobel Prize winner from India,” said Dhanashree Heblikar, creative director of the plays.

Heblikar adds that they chose this topic believing that children should know about Indian literature and Tagore. “I’m glad that the children have been responding well to the play.”

She explains that the idea is to create awareness about Indian writers and Indian literature. “It is more important to learn something pertaining to the country than being addicted to cartoons which become a mode of passing time during these holidays,” points out Heblikar.

The play is directed by Abhijeet Choudhary while the designers are Dhanashree Heblikar and Mahadev Singh Lakhawat.

On: May 14, 6 pm
At: MES Auditorium, Balshikshan School Campus, Mayur Colony, Kothrud.
