Filmmaker Pa Ranjith has raised concerns about the integrity of government and private award organisations at both state and national levels. His remarks come soon after the Tamil Nadu government announced the State Film Awards and State Television Awards. The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for 2016 to 2022, and the State Television Awards for 2014 to 2022 were announced on January 29. The awards honoured many leading film and television artists, including actors, male and female, filmmakers, music composers and more who have significantly contributed to the industry in recent years.

Pa Ranjith took to social media to question whether such awards are managed with fairness. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "In the context of the Tamil Nadu government announcing the film awards, a question for you? Do government and private award organisations at the Tamil Nadu and Indian levels truly operate with integrity?"
