Still from Kantara: Chapter 1
Rishab Shetty's much-awaited Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1 released in theatres today. The film, a prequel to the blockbuster Kantara (2022), has been written, directed, and headlined by Shetty. It also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in pivotal roles. Set in the 4th–5th century, the movie traces the origin of the Daivas.
While the film is expected to enjoy a long theatrical run, it will be available for streaming afterward. The streaming rights have been sold to Amazon Prime Video, which already hosts Kantara (2022). Reportedly, the deal was closed for a whopping Rs 125 crore, making Kantara: Chapter 1 one of the highest-paid Kannada films for post-theatrical streaming, second only to KGF 2. The film is expected to release on Prime Video in multiple languages- Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi- ensuring a pan-India OTT experience.
