Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 was released in theatres today. It is a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara. The first film was a massive hit, introducing new audiences to Kannada cinema. The second part of the story takes the narrative thousands of years back. The climax of the film also hints at a potential third part for Kantara.

The film, which also stars Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Deviah, is set in the 4th–5th century. It begins where Kantara (2022) left off and explores the origins of the Daiva culture introduced in the first movie. After good triumphs over evil, the narrative returns to the present. A child listening to the story asks about one of the caves featured in the tale, and the film ends with an elderly person saying, “That is for the next chapter.” This clearly signals the makers’ intention to continue the story with a third installment.
