The Costume Institute Gala Benefit celebrated the opening of the "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity" exhibition. The event was hosted by Patrick Robinson of The Gap, co-hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey. Here who dazzled on the red carpet.



Anne Hathaway strikes a pose. The 27-year-old Alice in Wonderland actress wore a Valentino dress, jewels by Bulgari, shoes by Casadei and bag by Ferragamo.

Taylor Swift rocks the red carpet in a Ralph Lauren Collection ivory plisse georgette beaded gown. The 20-year-old musician finished off her look with platinum metallic strappy heels and a matching antique platinum herringbone clutch with a 3-D flower, both by Ralph Lauren Collection.

Renee Zellweger looked graceful. The 41-year-old Academy Award winning actress wore an elegant Carolina Herrera dress.

Eva Longoria donned a stunning Marchesa dress. The 35-year-old actress also carried a crystal embroidered medium clutch by Marchesa to match with her silver embroidered platinum crepe gown.

Jessica Biel hits the MET Ball with boyfriend Justin Timberlake. The couple wore Ralph Lauren Collection with Jessica in an antique ivory silk charmeuse gown, black suede ankle strap heels with black crystals and silver minaudiere karung clutch.
