Too pretty to look poor

Nushrrat Bharuccha recently revealed that she auditioned for the role of Latika in Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). The role was ultimately portrayed by Freida Pinto. She claimed that she was told she was “too pretty” to play a slum girl. Nushrrat initially found the reason puzzling but later realised it made sense after watching the film, acknowledging that she wouldn’t have fit the role. She said that she understood the director’s perspective, noting that the character’s evolution wouldn’t have been believable with her in the film. On the work front, she was last seen in Chhorii 2, streaming on OTT.
