'If you’re 80, we can make you look 18. VFX has come to us now. Age is no longer a barrier now for actors,' says Aamir Khan justifying age gap in Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par sees him pairing with Genelia Deshmukh for the first time, but the 23-year age gap between them is not lost on the audience. On being asked if he had any concerns about casting Genelia, who amusingly starred opposite his nephew Imran Khan in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008), Aamir quipped, “That’s a long time ago. And Imran is also my age now,” before adding, “That thought did come to me.” The superstar explained that he and Genelia play a couple in their ‘40s and the only thing that mattered was that he looked his character’s age.
“Genelia and I are in early 40s, in the film. There’s a reason why. You’ll understand it once you watch the film. She looks beautiful at that age. She is around that age in real life. I am 60. But in the film, I look 42 because in today’s day and age, we have the advantage of VFX. Earlier, I had to look that through makeup or other prosthetics. Today, you don’t need to do that. If you’re 80, we can make you look 18. VFX has come to us now. Age is no longer a barrier now for actors. As long as I can play the role creatively, the physicality will not be a barrier,” he said.
