Can fashion week in India in circa 2010 take place sans Bollywood stars
Can fashion week in India in circa 2010 take place sans Bollywood stars? The second day of the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2011 yet again tried answering this question with a firm 'yes'. While on Day 1, we saw Shobha De strutting down the ramp for Ritu Beri and a not-so-enthusiastic Raima Sen was spotted at designer Roma Narsinghani's stallu00a0-- the only ones from B-town whose presence was registered. Day 2 focused on the designers and their creations.

"As it should be ethically," aired a model loud enough for us to hear. The day saw works byu00a0 designers like Aneeth Arora, Rimzim Dadu, Kavita Bhartia, Anju Modi, Amit Aggarwal and Wendell Rodricks among others. Royal blue blended smoothly into whites, shades of gold, indigo and earthy brown were the predominant colours.
The mood ranged from Mira Bai's longing for Krishna to a trip into the Mughal era through angrakhas, saris, lehengas and tunics. Little Shilpa by designer Shilpa Chavan, saw elaborate headgears epitomising the canon. Shilpa's designs conveyed method in madness.

Didn't we just host the CWG and pat ourselves on the back on our decent behaviour? Then how could we now forget all about chivalry and common courtesies? Everybody stands patiently in a queue, only until the gates open. Then we all herd towards the narrow entrance stepping on each others toes. Well, we might not be able top afford them, but come on people, you might be just stepping on somebody's $1,000 Jimmy Choos or Guccis.u00a0u00a0 The only people who are maintaining decorum are a few gay men I befriended. "What's the hurry when everybody is going to the same place?" wondered one. Any answers?u00a0

All work and no fun would make all the Jacks dull. So cricket commentator and quiz enthusiast Gautam Bhimani ensured that the grey cells were exercised by conducting a fashion quiz called Whats Haute? Journalists and designers formed nine teams for a showdown. The wining team, comprising designers Poonam Bhagat, Ranna Gill, Gaurav Gupta and teammates were awarded six ornately designed carpets by Manish Arora, Madhu Jain and Milind Soman, Rohit Bal, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Sabyasachi Mukherjee. "It was a welcomed distraction," said a happy Bhimani.

Talking of figures and thinness, this journalist realised he was the only one flaunting a figure which was anything but a size zero. Everybody seemed to be surviving on a dew and sunlight diet. To add insult to injury, he even spotted a reed thin security guardu00a0 doing the rounds. The poor man is probably malnourished for a reason, but what is it with journalists, camerapersons and PR executives? The only ray of hopeu00a0-- some of the burly bouncers who even stepped into the loo to check things out. With them around, I feel reassured and safe.u00a0u00a0
Bhaiyya fashion week chaloge?
Well, they arrived in their Mercedes' and BMWs. Some with official blue and lal battis, but everybody wanted a rickshaw ride. If the autorickshaw had captured our fancy last year, this time it is the humble cycle rickshaw which has been transformed from a mode of transport to a mode of communication. Decked up according to the designers' distinct themes, the unassuming vehicles have become excuses to for some memorable photo ops. "Ek photo iske aagey" is what every visitor seemed to want.
