With the festivities around the corner and the wedding season approaching, buyers are on the lookout for something that's traditional and grand with a contemporary touch to it.
"Today's customers have gone beyond the traditional colours like royal blues, red, maroon, green, etc. They want to look traditional but definitely not flashy," says designer Maheka Mirpuri. She talks to CS about her new collection, today's buyer and the trends this season:u00a0
Wow woman
Women today are well-travelled with a fondness for the finer things of life. They exude strength, independence and attitude and are glamorous and classy at the same time. I can very well identify with them. So for the woman with poise, I have designed my new collection, The Myriad Moods of M, where M is about being modern, mesmeric and majestic and of course Maheka.
Intelligent design
I have experimented with a lot of new fabrics, designs and concept. Since, it is winter and the festive time, the bling and Swarovski are a part of it. I've worked on interwoven fabrics, lace work and hand painted fabrics for the first time. I feel an outfit should look as stunning at a marriage as at a sit-down dinner. And I design my lines accordingly. I believe in synchronising complexity with simplicity.u00a0
Trend talk
As winter is setting in, rich colours are top priority. Purple will rule the design industry. Also shades like grape, plum, aubergine and eggplant to brighter violets are working this season. In fabrics, French chiffons and tulles can be used for the desired sensuality, and ornate fabrics like silks, satins and brocades work best for the festive and wedding season.
