"Payal is dead now, let me rise as Jaya", says Jaya Bhattacharya who played the famous Payal in Kyunki for eight years. After a break of two years, Jaya has made her entry on Aise Karo Naa Vidaa where she emerges as a softer and more positive person. Jaya talks to CS about her desire to experiement:
Making the right choice
Contrary to the popular view, I didn't disappear but was eager for the right role to come my way. Of late, I have been very picky about my roles. I felt essaying the same role over and over again would suffocate me. I use to question my own creativity and even doubted whether I was capable of doing something different. After a certain limit there is no creativity left in you and you end up getting typecast. And I was certainly not interested in doing something just for the heck of it.
Role play
As Payal In Kyunki I played a very possessive person while in Aise Karo Naa Vidaa, my character is just the opposite. People need to realise it that I can be quite versatile. I am not too concerned about my image but the actor in me surely bothers me.
Busy beeu00a0
I travel every six hours a day from the sets of Aise Karo Naa Vidaa to the sets of Jhansi ki Rani. I am working day and night shifts and I don't regret it. In fact, I enjoy the whole experience that acting brings. Fortunately, I'm not tied down by family responsibilities and kids. I don't crib about being over-worked because I completely chilled out for two whole years.
Comic timing
I am not a very funny person. But even though I am not a comedian, I can manage to laugh at myself. It is an art by itself. I call myself an idiot, and don't give others the chance to do that. I like to scare people around me and love to see their reactions after it.
