Actress Deepika Padukone has adopted Ambegaon, a village in the interiors of Maharastra. As part of a Greenathon campaign, Deepika has decided to adopt the village. While other actors gave their names to different villages, Deepika had reason to choose Ambegaon.

After she heard that the village faced a major electricity crisis, she decided to sponsor them. A source reveals that before putting her name down, she tried to find as much information as possible about the place.

Deepika confirms adopting Ambegaon. "I heard that the place faces a blackout after sunset. Because of that, the villagers don't have much to do. Now with a regular supply of electricity they can do many things like study, read et al." She plans to follow it up by going there and seeing "the place personally some time in the future."

A source adds that Deepika did a lot of reading up and spoke with the Greenathon people to find out the problems of the villagers before adopting it.
