PanAm Aquatic Championship- Raekwon Noel
Raekwon Noel has secured a gold medal position in the Men’s 100m butterfly category at the ongoing 2025 PanAm Aquatic Championship in Medellin, Colombia. Noel left behind Manuel Diaz of Venezuela and Andres Brooks of Puerto Rico, who secured the second and third position respectively.

Noel participated in the 19-22 age category, and delivered an outstanding performance at the event, by clocking just 54 seconds. His dedicated and strong performance also lead him to secure a new national record for Guyana under his name at the event.
Apart from his thrilling performance in the 100m Butterfly category, Noel is set to participate in the 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and the 400m freestyle category as well. Noel has been performing exceptionally well at different regional and international events he has been participating in.
Last year at the National Aquatics Centre, he created a new national record of 56.35 seconds in February 2023, which he himself broke this year at the PanAm aquatic championships. Apart from Noel, Shareefah Lewis another Guyanese athlete delivered an outstanding performance at the event.
Lewis competed in the girls’ 16-18 50m backstroke category and finished in eighth position with a time of 33.47 seconds. This marks an achievement for her as she broke her personal best score of 34.12 seconds at the event. Apart from them, many other Guyanese athletes have participated in the event with Mary Chung and Abigail Giddings as the representatives and leaders of the delegation.
The PanAm aquatics championship is currently taking place in Medellin, Colombia and the events will continue till 25th May in various segments including Swimming, Diving, Water polo and more. The PanAm aquatics championship is one of the most renowned swimming competitions across the wider America with North, Central and South American countries participating in the same.
The aquatic championship serves as a platform for athletes across these countries to participate and train themselves for a stronger representation at events on an international and broader level.
