Kalmadi briefs delegates on Commonwealth Games

At a special Commonwealth Games briefing attended by delegates of the participating nations here Wednesday, Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi said all arrangements are in place to ensure a safe Games.


At a special Commonwealth Games briefing attended by delegates of the participating nations here Wednesday, Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi said all arrangements are in place to ensure a safe Games.

"Good progress has been made in all front as far as the preparations are concerned. All the venues are world class and would be completed well in time," Kalmadi said in an official statement after the meeting Wednesday.

Representatives, including High Commissioners, Deputy High Commissioners and trade delegates from various Commonwealth nations attended the meeting.

Representatives of South Africa, Britain, Australia, Mauritius, Kenya, Jamaica, Singapore, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Gambia, Zambia, Bahamas and Malaysia were among those present during the briefing.

The delegates expressed satisfaction over the progress made by the organisers.

Kalmadi thanked the Commonwealth Games Associations for showing their enthusiasm by confirming the participation of a large number of athletes and officials. He made special mention of Australia, England and Wales which are sending the largest ever contingent for the Games.

Presentations were made on various aspect of the event like security, ticketing, the Business Club of India, the Queen's Baton Relay, the image and look of the Games, catering, technology, transport etc.
