The Indian men's marathon team created history by finishing third overall in the 5th edition of Standard Chartered Bank's Greatest Race on Earth challenge (GROE), which concluded with the Hong Kong marathon on Sunday.
It took long five years for the Indian Team to move from 5th place to 3rd place in the overall tally, reflecting the improvement in long distance running among Indian athletes and also the popularity of Marathon running in the country.
On Sunday, India's 25-year-old armyman Angad Kumar Prasad, representing the country as the fourth runner in the final leg of GROE at Hong Kong, finished the men's full marathon in 7th place with a timing of 2:25:21 sec.
Women finish 5th
In the women's section Leelamma Alphanso finished in 10th place (22nd overall) in the women's marathon with a timing of 3 hours 19.23sec. The Indian women's team finished 5th in the regional challenge.
