England's Euro 2012 qualifying campaign suffered an embarrassing setback here last night as they were held to a lacklustre 0-0 draw by football minnows Montenegro.
In a result that is certain to see renewed calls for England coach Fabio Capello to be replaced, Montenegro dug in to earn a precious point and remain top of Group G with 10 points from four games.
Spain wins
A late goal from substitute Fernando Llorente helped world champions Spain preserve their flawless record in Group I with a narrow 3-2 win over ten-man Scotland, who briefly threatened an upset at Hampden. A David Villa penalty put Spain ahead on the stroke of half-time and Andres Iniesta doubled their lead ten minutes into the second-half.
Dutch progress
Two goals apiece from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Ibrahim Afellay saw the Netherlands to an impressive 4-1 victory over previously unbeaten Sweden.
The victory sees the Dutch maintain their perfect start to the qualifiers with four wins from four matches with the only black spot of the night an ankle injury to winger Dirk Kuyt that saw him taken to hospital.
Germany spot on
Germany ran out far clearer winners against Kazakhstan. Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez and Lukas Podolski all scored in a 3-0 win to make it a maximum 12 points.
France power on
France consolidated their spot atop Group D of Euro 2012 qualifiers with a facile 2-0 victory over Luxembourg. Goals in either half from Karim Benzema and Yoann Gourcuff sealed a victory that now sees Les Bleus with nine points from their four games.
Ronaldo shines
Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile,u00a0 sent Portugal on their way to a 3-1 victory in Iceland with an early goal but his side stay two points behind early leaders Norway.
