A suicide bomber detonated a bomb near the French embassy in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott on Saturday, killing the bomber and wounding three others, the police said.
Police said the bomb exploded at about 100 meters from the French embassy.
The identity of the suicide bomber, aged around 25, was not immediately known, police said.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
