Two academicians have been given more than 100,000 pounds to spend a year investigating about lap dancing clubs.
Prof Phil Hubbard and Dr Rachela Colosi hope to find out how people feel living near to one.
They want to discover whether there is a place for them in towns or if more controls are needed.
The research, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council will help the local bodies decide whether the premises are suitable as clubs or not.
