13 killed by mortar at Mogadishu mosque

A mortar shell hit a mosque in the Somali capital Mogadishu killing at least 13 people as they left after prayers, witnesses said.

"It was the most terrible incident I have ever witnessed, 13 people have died," witness Dadir Ali Jes said.

Somali government security officer Adan Weheliye described the explosion at the mosque in the north of the city yesterday as a 'tragedy' and said at least 10 people had died. Officers were investigating, he said.
