At least 127 people were killed when a plane overshot the runaway and crashed into a jungle in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Bad weather was blamed for the crash on Friday. Congo's transport ministry said 51 passengers were rescued, however it was not immediately clear how many people were on board the plane.

The Hewa Bora Airways, which operated the aircraft, was later banned from flying into Europe due to safety concerns. The airline said that its Boeing 727 aircraft crashed near the Kisangani airport after the pilot tried to land it in a stormy weather.
