Kuch laye ho?

I have always heard about bribery incidents, but came face to face with such a situation only recently. When I went to the police station for my passport verification, a cop asked me, 'Kuch laye ho?'.

For a second I was taken aback, as I never believed that cops actually have the guts to ask for bribes openly.

As an honest citizen, I denied him the bribe, and my passport status online still shows police verification pending even after a month of submission. Now, I think that by denying his demand, I have fallen into a big mess.
