Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has declared that the state government has decided to revoke the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP). In a statement shared on the social media platform 'X' (formerly known as Twitter), Shivakumar reiterated the government's commitment to cancelling the NEP, raising questions about the urgency to implement it in Karnataka when other states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have not done so.
Citing the success of Karnataka's education system and its contribution to the state's prominence as the IT capital, Shivakumar defended the decision, saying, "The education system in Karnataka is a model for the country. That is why Bangalore is the IT capital today. So many people in the state are in good positions abroad, because of our education system."
This announcement follows the earlier statement made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who confirmed that the National Education Policy implemented by the previous BJP government will be completely abolished from the next academic year. He highlighted that the decision was made after considering the opposition from students, parents, lecturers, and teachers.
