Already known as the Oxford of the East, the city of Pune is fast marching ahead to become the city of web designers. However, web designers in the city could tap only 10 per cent of the total business.


Already known as the Oxford of the East, the city of Pune is fast marching ahead to become the city of web designers. However, web designers in the city could tap only 10 per cent of the total business.



Neeraj Jewalikar, founder and CEO of Trendyworks Technologies Private Limited, a web-designing company, told MiD DAY that there are still 30,000 to 40,000 business opportunities in and around Pune, as the city is today a base for a number of industries.

"There is a strong need to create awareness among companies and professionals to establish their own websites for business and other purposes," he said.

By establishing a corporate head office in Pune, the company is planning to open three more centres inu00a0 Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur in the next financial year, Jewalikar informed. All the major operations will be controlled from Pune.

Trendyworks focuses on web products and has a 25-member team of programmers, creative designers, writers and marketing professionals. "We have over 500 clients in Pune and we plan to target another 1,000 prospects by March," said Jewalikar.

'What slowdown?'

According to him, there is no impact of the economic slowdown on the web designing business of his company.

"We are focusing mainly on small and medium size clients like restaurants, furniture makers, educational institutes, architects, cloth merchants, etc." There is neither a boom, nor a slowdown in these business sectors."

Trendyworks will be shortly adding an advertising option to the range of services that it offers.

"We charge Rs 500 to each client per month for the advertisement," he said. This gets a vast reach and impact as the Internet has opened up advertising channels for small and medium enterprises to tap into new markets.

"A website is like your visiting card. Therefore, the idea is to have a website first and then your visiting card," said Jewalikar pointed out.
