Prison officials at Asia's largest jail have found a novel way to keep prisoners in good shape and humour

Prisoners of Tihar Central Jail will soon roller-skate their way out of monotony. Jail officials are planning to introduce roller-skating classes for them, starting next week. The vast open spaces of the jail campus will serve as the venue.u00a0u00a0u00a0

According to sources within the jail, inmates of jail number 4 in Tihar would soon get the privilege of roller-skating during their free time inside the jail. Authorities have procured around 50 skates, which would be used to give skating training sessions to convicts.

"Currently, we are starting this initiative in jail number 4. If they pick it up, the facility will be introduced in other jails too in the future," said an officer from jail number 4.

According to the plan, the inmates would skate at a temporary rink near the stadium in jail number 4. "There is a rink near the stadium and it will be renovated. Apart from other games like table tennis, volley ball, we hope this adds as a recreation for the prisoners," said a jail officer.

Life behind bars: A typical day for a prisoner in the largest central jail of Asia begins early. Prisoners have to wake up at 5: 30 in the morning and attend prayers. But during the day there is room for recreation.

Apart from working in the various departments inside the jail, they also have the facility of the library. They can participate in games like cricket, football and table tennis. There are spiritual and meditation courses also for the inmates.u00a0
