Nearly a month after MiD DAY revealed how two conmen duped the D-Company of Rs 25 lakh under the pretense of arranging a meeting with Naxals in Dubai, CCB investigators have issued a Red Corner notice against Altaf alias Rakesh alias Munna, a close aid of underworld don Chhota Shakeel who was recently booked for trying to establish an ISI-Naxal link.

The city police will execute the order through CID, the nodal agency of Interpol in Karnataka to CBI-Interpol wing, Delhi, official sources said.

It is said that the city cops will execute the order through CID, the nodal agency of the Interpol in Karnataka to the CBI-Interpol wing in New Delhi.

The 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate permitted the city police to issue the notice recently and the police have filed an affidavit with the court about the criminal conspiracy of Altaf, a native of Kinnigoli in south Canara.

Altaf who was running a live band (Times Bar) on Residency Road in Bangalore came into the D-Company network through supplying live band artists to Gulf countries. He later fled the country after several cheating and criminal cases were booked against him.

However, he used to have regular contacts with Vinay Kumar, a former bouncer and Devaiah, a private detective, who claimed to have links with some naxal leaders.

Altaf's name surfaced after the Hyderabad police unearthed some pseudo-Naxal leaders trying to establish contact with the D-Company by giving a false promise of arranging meetings and contacts with Naxal leaders in Dubai.

Kumar and Devaiah posed as persons with high-level contact with Naxal leaders in the Western Ghats (now in jail), and promised Altaf contact with Naxals.

Altaf believed them and arranged Rs 25 lakh from Shakeel and forwarded the money to them through hawala channel. The duo had then absconded with the money.

The arrest of Rasheed Malbari, a Chhota Shakeel henchman in Mangalore and the loosening grip of the D-gang in Karnataka was a worrying factor for the latter.

Altaf, a native of Mangalore is said to have been asked by Shakeel to establish contacts in Karnataka and to also enhance underworld activities, sources added.
