Not being able to bear the shock of their four-year-old son's death, a software engineer and his wife committed suicide at their residence on Tuesday. Two days later, when a foul smell started emanating from the apartment, neighbours alerted the Chaturshringi police station, after which the bodies were recovered.
The deceased have been identified as Jayesh Patel, 34, his wife Bhumika, 30, and their son Naksha. Hailing from Ahmedabad, the Patels were residing in a posh apartment of Basant Bihar society in Baner. Jayesh was working as an IT engineer in a Yerawada-based multinational company.
Speaking to mid-day, Ganesh Shinde, deputy commissioner of police (zone III), said, "Naksha was suffering from a condition that led to fits, which might have been the reason of his death. The post-mortem report will help us to confirm the exact date and time of the suicides. After calling Jayesh a number of times, when his colleagues failed to reach him, they asked the residents of the building to check. Then the locals alerted us."

He further said, "The cops entered their apartment from the third floor terrace and found the three of them dead. Both Jayesh and Bhumika had strangulation marks on their necks. Either both of them committed suicide or Jayesh killed his wife first and then himself. No money or valuables have been stolen from their house."
