Cops have arrested a moneylender who would intimidate his customers by placing a loaded gun on the table with goons on either side

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a 37-year-old moneylender who used to recover his money from his customers at gunpoint. ACP HS Duggappa said that the accused, HR Manjunath, used to intimidate his customers by placing a loaded gun on the table while sitting in front of his customers and a pack of goons standing behind him.

CCB officials nabbed Manjunath following a series of petitions from small businessmen and hawkers to the police commissioner. Based on the instructions, the CCB swung into action and arrested Manjunath. Among the recovered articles are a pistol along with nine rounds of ammunition, documents, blank cheques and promisory notes worth Rs 20 lakh.

Preliminary enquiry has revealed that Manjunath had invested Rs 5 crore in the market tagetting small scale businessmen, offering loans with a whopping interest of Rs 10 to 20 per cent.

Manjunath has been in the business for quite some time and operational in central parts of the city. "We are surprised how he went unnoticed," Duggappa said adding that he has been booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
