A 23-year-old national-level sportswoman had her leg cut off from her body after she fell from a moving train between Chenati and Bareilly railway stations, police said here today.
Sonu Sinha, a national-level football and volleyball player, fell from the Padmavat Express on Monday night while she was traveling to Delhi to appear in an examination, they said.
Sonu's left leg was amputated in the accident and she has been admitted to the district hospital, the police said. She boarded the train from Lucknow and was traveling in the general compartment, they added.
Sonu, alias Arunima was to appear in recruitment examination of CISF, police said.

Sonu in her FIR said three to four youths were fighting in the train and one of them tried to snatch her chain, Bareilly GRP incharge Anees Ahmad said.
"After gaining consciousness this evening, Sonu said she boarded the train from Lucknow on Monday night at around 12.40 am and was travelling in general compartment," Special Director General of Police Brij Lal told reporters in Lucknow.
He said a case under section 307 (attempt to murder and 393 (attempt to robbery) of the IPC has been lodged against unidentified persons by the Government Railway Police.
