Shang Dynasty needs more than cool presentation to win over the suburb's Chinese food lovers. What's On ordered in and had a hard time keeping the food down

If you work at Lower Parel, chances are you have sampled takeaway Chinese at Shang Dynasty. It's now attempting to woo Mumbai's suburbanites. But if the food we ordered is any indication to go by, Shang has a long way to go before it can draw regulars away from their favourite Chinese haunts.

What's good: They kept to their promise of delivering at your doorstep within 25 to 30 minutes. All dishes were packed in plastic containers. The portions were generous.

What's bad: Much of the food was just plain bland, and that's hardly good news for those of us who insist on turning Sweet Corn Soup from white to chocolate with a heavy dose of soya sauce. We tried the Golden Fried Babycorn (Rs 100); should have been crispier, the Korean Fried Rice (Rs 90); it had to be paired with a gravy for it to develop any sort of taste, and the Chicken Malaysian Noodles (110); skip it. The Crispy Thread Chicken (Rs 100) was an interesting option, and makes for a decent starter.

At: Asmi building, Evershine Nagar, Malad (W).
Call: 32996440.
Shang Dynasty delivers between Malad and Kandivali.
