When we heard the name BeachDog, we imagined some quirky history behind it. But turns out, BeachDog just represents a happy-go-lucky carefree attitude that the band members choose to follow. The eclectic Rock quartet from Pune is dedicated to writing, recording and performing original music.

"The first song we composed was called Beach Dog, so the name came naturally to us. It basically refers to a carefree attitude as we just do what we want to do," says Bhushan Marathe. They describe their music as basic Rock, with the influence of Blues, Jazz and progressive Rock.

The band was formed in early 2007 and they began as an acoustic trio. But soon, along with the gentle finger-picked guitar instrumentals and full band campfire songs, they moved on to Progressive Rock compositions and quirky Funk workouts to becoming the current electric quartet.

BeachDog comprises of Bhushan (vocal and percussion), Anoop (bass and vocals), Shreyas (drums, percussions and vocals) and Dinkar (guitar and vocals).

"We've found major success in India. We have been playing in the city and have done 15 gigs over here," he adds. They have also taken part in Independence Rock and well as the Battle of Bands. They couldn't perform at the finals of the Battle, however, as some of the members had to leave town.

Apart from music, they are also involved in alternative careers. So while Bhushan is a Chartered Accountant, Anoop is a software engineer, Dinkar is studying for his MA and Shreyas is an engineering student. Anoop and Bhushan have known each other for the last 15 years. "Earlier, I had a band called Headrush where I was the vocalist and Anoop, who had his own band called Shankara, would drop in to listen. Soon, we teamed up and with Onkar and Shankar joining in BeachDog was formed," recalls Bhushan.

So far they have recorded six tracks and two more will follow by August. They plan to release an album comprising of eight tracks although the current playlist comprises of more than 20 original songs.

The band is very excited about playing on the home turf and are planning to perform their own songs such as Lay Your Burden Down, Crashing Down and Ghosts And You.
