A 35-year-old live-in maid committed suicide by hanging herself from a shower head in her employer's bathroom at Neelayi Apartments in Chembur on Thursday.

The victim Sangita Jadhav, a married woman from Satara, had been staying in Mumbai for two months, working and residing in a house owned by Preeti Tushar Parikh. Jadhav had gone for a bath at 6.30 am yesterday and didn't come out for half an hour. When Parikh knocked the door at 7 am, there was no reply.u00a0

The family then opened the door with a key and found Jadhav hanging by her dupatta from the shower head.

"The incident took place at 7 am and we came to know about it around 8 am. The body has been sent to JJ Hospital for post-mortem. We do not have any clue about her family background or the reason why she committed suicide," said Police Sub-Inspector S S Dalvi.

A watchman of Neelayi Apartments said, "Sangita was not under pressure from the resident's family as they are very well behaved and friendly with us. I don't think anyone from the family would have caused any problems."
