"It's a pun on Kamasutra, obviously," says stand-up comic Nitin Mirani, while he explains the funda behind the name of his show, Komic Sutra, that debuts in Mumbai tonight. "It's like saying India is great at two things - sex, obviouslyu00a0 because you have to just look at the population to gauge that, and a sense of humour. But, hey, that's not what I mean. It's just a catchy name, that's all," he laughs.
Nitin says his show draws from material around him - right from relationships, Facebook and Swine Flu to Mumbai's autorickshaw drivers. "I take inspiration from people around me. I guess that would explain why I have no friends. They are all convinced that I am going to make a dig at them."
The Mumbai-born Dubai-based Business Administration student saw his career jump start when a performer didn't show up at a friend's club, and he was asked to fill in. "When I tell people I'm a stand-up comic, they say, 'Arey, iska matlab hai kamata nahin hoga'," he smirks. Nitin has since performed with acts like Hollywood's Aron Kader of the The Axis Of Evil Comedy Tour and UK comic Jeff Mirza.
Joining him in Komic Sutra is Delhi rapper MC Sid, a free-style rap artist who is known for spontaneously cooking up rhymes based on his conversations with audience members. He has performed earlier alongside Akon and Mobb Deep.
