Civic body plans to involve Bangaloreans in its wildlife initiatives; will soon upgrade its forest cell with hi-tech gadgets worth Rs 15 lakh
THE forest cell of the Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which so far had quite grungy infrastructure, will go hi-tech soon.
The cell that handles over 180 species of birds and animals and carries out rescue operations in the city, as and when required, will be upgraded with hi-tech gadgets worth Rs 15 lakh.
Besides, through the Green Police project, the civic body intends to involve wildlife enthusiasts in rescue operations, as experts feel it will be of great help in creating awareness towards natural world amongst citizens.
The forest cell takes care of over 180 wildlife species of birds and animals and also trains those who want to get acquainted with wildlife issues. Ajay Bharadwaj, a wildlife volunteer, rescues rat snakes. |
