If only the homemade varieties work for you try Shruti Shinde. Her authentic home-cooked goodies come for Rs 11 per piece. Shruti says, "I got this idea from my mother-in-law last year, who suggested that we try making this a commercial venture by taking orders." An extremely good cook herself, she adds, "We got a very good response last year and this year we plan to add more varieties like orange, rose, mango and dry fruits.

MULCHAND SWEETS
Around since 1951, Mulchand Sweets buzzes with activity. "The sales have been brisk this year," says Kantilal Mulchand Sethia.u00a0During this festival they make modaks in myriad flavours including chocolate (Rs 400 per kg), Mango, Rose, Malai (all for Rs 300 per kg), Mawa Kaju (Rs 420). You can check out some special Modak like Coconut Fried modaks (Rs 200 per kg) and Steamed modaks (Rs 15 per piece).
Other specialties are Fruit Nut Roll (Rs 500 per kg) Kalakand (Rs 260), Kaju Barfi (Rs 400), Choconut or chocolate with nuts ( Rs 560) and a Bengali sweet called Malai Rimzim (Rs 26) per kg).

Karachi Sweets Mart
This time of the year, is sweeter than usual for Karachi Sweets. They stock some special modaks like Kesar, Pista and ice-cream (Rs 300 per kg), Malai (Rs 340 per kg), Chocolate (Rs 320), Mawa (Rs 340 per kg).u00a0Other items include Boondi (Rs 160 per kg), Malai Burfi (Rs 320 per kg), Mango Barfi (Rs 340 per kg), Ladoo (Rs 170 per kg) and others. The speciality here is Dilkhush a special sweet made of dry fruitsu00a0 (Rs 720 per kg) and Kahu Paan (Rs 600 per kg). You can also get a range of Bengali sweets like Cham cham, Rasagulla and more. And, if you're a fan of paans, don't leave without trying their Banarasi Paan (Rs 120 for a packet of 14).

This famous landmark is known for their wafers like Potato Chivda (Rs 240 per kg) and Potato Cheese Wafers (Rs 240 per kg). During the festive season however, they also make some special modaks. "Other than our regular items we have Kesar modaks this year," says owner Arvind Budhani. The kesar modaks comes for Rs 200 a kilo and they aren't stocking chocolate modaks like they did last time. Drop in to try their Chakli, Kaju barfi, Kalakand, Motichur ka Ladoo and more.
