NCP leader Uttam Hirve held after doctors declare him fit; police say his wife instigated sons to kill 22-year-old Manoj Kasbe after 'insult'
The Chinchwad police late last night arrested NCP corporator Uttam Hirve (47) of Dalvinagar and his sons for their involvement in the murder of 22-year-old Manoj Kasbe.
Earlier in the day, the police arrested Hirve's wife Ratnamala (45) on charges of instigating her two sons Raju and Vijay to kill Kasbe on Saturday night.
The corporator had allegedly pretended he was unwell and got himself admitted tou00a0 the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital to delay his arrest, but he was subsequently declared fit by doctors. His two sons had been on the run since the murder.
Kasbe's body was found on Sunday morning at the Akurdi railway station.
He had confronted two men who allegedly misbehaved with his sister at a dandiya event on Saturday night.
Mothers fight
Police Inspector Mahesh Joshi from the Chinchwad police station said Ratnamala was angered because Kasbe's mother threw her sons out of the dandiya event.
"On October 16 Ratnamala Hirve went to Kasbe's residence and threatened the mother of Manoj Kasbe," Joshiu00a0 said. "As Kasbe's mother was a committee member for the dandiya night, she had thrown Raju and Vijay Hirve out of the dandiya event after the two allegedly misbehaved with her daughter. This angered Ratnamala, and she instigated her sons and husband to murder Manoj Kasbe."
The officer added that they had always suspected Hirveu00a0was faking it. "Corporator Hirve got himself admitted to the YCM Hospital in Chinchwad on Sunday morning, soon after the incident. He was supposedly not well," Joshi said. "We think it was a deliberate attempt on Hirve's part to delay arrest."
