Colaba's new antique shop stocks interesting mantelpieces including brass clocks, portable binoculars and oil lamps that are more than 100 years old
The similarity between Kalbadevi'su00a0 Chor Bazaar and a new antique shop in Colaba, is that if you look hard enough you will find interesting articles that are both functional and make for interesting conversation starters. While the former is located in an area that's notorious for being frequented by thieves out to make a fast buck, the latter is an upscale store in South Mumbai, which caters to people who swear by the adage 'Old is Gold', and don't mind spending more for the privilege of owning a piece of history.
Brass oil lamp
As you step inside the store, you notice that the space has been divided across two levels to accommodate racks of clothes and shelves of interesting home decor accessories.u00a0 When we dropped by on a weekday, we stumbled upon a brass lamp (Rs 2,970) that looked like it was straight out of Aladdin's hidden closet with a genie waiting to grant your every wish. For those, who do not believe in fairy tales but are interested in finding out what their stars foretell, you can pick up a brass globe with Persian inscriptions of the astrological signs (Rs 3,600). If you love going the distance but don't have the eyesight to take you there, pick up a portable pair of binoculars (Rs 2,400) or a brass clock shaped like the steering wheel of a ship (Rs 2,800). Also, on sale are hand-printed cotton kurtis (Rs 1,665) in vibrant colours.
