Salman, who used to be 165-kg, has lost 40 kg and is able to walk and breathe freely after special surgery; hopes to resume his studies soon
Sixteen-year-old Salman Pasha is feeling rather light these days. Thanks to the laproscopic gastric sleeve resection surgery at St Philomena's Hospital on July 5, the 165-kg boy lost 40 kg.
Salman, who began gaining weight at the age of 10, became morbidly obese over the years.

His condition worsened after his family took him to a quack who prescribed a herbal preparation. Salman had to discontinue his studies as he became increasingly heavier.

For the first six weeks after the surgery, Salman has been put on a liquid diet. He is permitted to have only juice, water, vegetable soup and buttermilk. He has to limit his calorific intake to 1,500 calories. He has been asked to take a 10-minute break between two sips. Dr Anand J warned Salman could gain weight three to four years later. "If that happens, we will have to redo the procedure and perform a surgical procedure called gastric bypass," said Dr Anand. |
