Victim claims she was harassed by an office colleague

In what could prove to be an incident of harassment at work place, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) executive has alleged that a male colleague tried to rape her. According to the police, both were in a relationship but had a break-up recently. A case has been registered atu00a0 the DLF Phase 2 police station of Gurgaon.


u00a0"Priya (name changed), who works with Convergys, had given us a complaint on Saturday. She has accused her colleague Rohit Singh of rape. We have registered a case and are verifying her complaint," said a senior police officer. Police said that the two got engaged in August but broke up over some differences a few days later.

The two were working together for the past four years. "We have registered a case of attempting to rape at DLF Phase-2 police station. The accused will be behind bars very soon," said a senior official of Gurgaon police.
Rohit Singh, a native of Alwar, Rajasthan, was living in a rented apartment in DLF Phase III while Priya lives near Kashmiri Gate in north Delhi. She is a native of UP.

"In her complaint Priya alleged that after the engagement was called off, Rohit continued harassing her. He took her to an isolated place and tried to rape her. Since the matter is sensitive we will carry out all investigations before arresting him," the officer said.u00a0

A case has been registered under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code.

Neither the victim nor the accused could be contacted despite several attempts. The official spokesperson for Convergys said: "So far no employee has come forward with any such complaint."
