Parents of children studying in Springdale school form organistation to fight management over 50% fee hike

Three weeks after MiD DAY's report on fee hike at Sinhagad Springdale School in Narhe, parents of students studying at various schools belonging to the Sinhagad Education Society have formed an organisation to fight the school's decision to hike fee.

According to a parent Anil Mahajan, the association ufffdSinhagad Springdale Parents Association, Pune Shaher Shakha ufffd has about 3700 parents as members who have decided to take up the school fee hike issue against the management.

"The school has arbitrarily increased the fees by fifty per cent without giving any logical explanation. They haven't consulted parents and have taken the decision on their own. We refuse to accept the new fee structure and will meet the management to discuss our stand," said Mahajan.

On Monday, representatives of the newly formed organisation met to discuss their stand against the fee hike.

Parents of students from Narhe, Dhayari, Warje, Sinhagad Road and other campuses also came to attend the meet.

Parents complained that the school fees were hiked from Rs 10,200 to Rs 21,100 in three years. They also said that fees were being collected under the category called 'other fees', which the school refused to provide a break-up for. After MiD-Day's intervention, school authorities agreed to give details of money collected under the category of other fees. but said that they were helpless when it came to revising fees stating increased expenses especially due to sixth pay commission.

A V Deshpande, registrar of the Sinhagad Technical Education Society, which runs the school, had then said that they had to hike fees for paying hiked salaries to the teaching and non-teaching staff. He was unavailable for comment yesterday.
