6 feared killed in building collapse in Thane

A seven-storey building collapsed in Thane on Thursday leaving at least six people dead and several others injured.


At least six persons, including a pregnant woman, were killed and twenty others injured when an under-construction building collapsed in Shilphata area on the Mumbai-Nasik road on Thursdayu00a0evening.

A massive rescue operation was underway, and by late evening, bodies of five men and a pregnant woman had been recovered from the debris, the polcie said.

The injured have been rushed to Mumbra's Kalsekar hospital. Among the injured, people who are in stable condition have been transferred to Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa.

The cause of the collpase is not known as yet.

Many are still feared to be buried under the debris.

The deceased include one woman and three men.

Locals rushed to the site immediately after the incident and started rescue operations. The fire department and police has also undertaken rescue ops.

According to Deputy Collector Manoj Gohad, the unauthorised building was occupied at least up to the fourth floor and many are feared dead in the mishap.

The injured have been identified as Maz (16), Imran (25), Raju Chavhan (30), Abdul Wahab (40), Suresh Kumar (27), Nirza Beg (8), Dinesh Ram (32). Siddique (12), Abinandhan (7), Bacha Bhai (25), Gulzar (6), Kangi Bhai (30), Abdul Wahab (40), Mohammed Afroz Haq (34), Gulzar (6), Saizad (25), Raja (26), Shahid Ahmed (46), Natrul Rathod (32), Jayesh Parakash (25) and Ballu (34).
