Critics say the SlutWalk will not affect the ground reality, that the Delhi creep may even enjoy the proceedings.

No one is saying things will change because of a protest march. But as citizens, this is how we can voice our opinion. The message is clear ufffd stop blaming victims or their clothes. This has become controversial only because of the word used, but people forget that the campaigners didn't use it to sensationalise the issue or grab eyeballs. The particular incident that triggered the protest, had the word being used by a police officer. Let the word not cloud the cause. It is interesting to see the excuses being offered to stop people from making a point. Dress the way you regularly do (because that doesn't stop sexual harassment), and take part!

Will you be participating?
Yes I will, happily and proudly. I'll be wearing regular clothes that I wear everyday in Delhi, because the point we're making is that no one asks for it. Abroad, I realise people dressed provocatively to make the same point and their everyday dressing may be more 'provocative' than that of an average Indian woman. With international campaigns like these, it becomes clear that world over, victims are blamed for rape. That needs to change.

How do you define the word 'slut'?
There is no similar word for men ufffd isn't that interesting? It's as if women's sexuality needs a label, while men needn't be answerable.
I define slut as a person (not man or woman) who has a right over their body, their sexuality and the right to make choices. It's not about having multiple partners ufffd it's about being able to own your body. Yes means yes, no means no.

What will it achieve?
In the Indian context, it is a shock campaign, but only to bring attention to the pervasive attitude in our society. If it can help educate some people to question their own attitudes, about not blaming the victims or asking them to take blame for it, it's a start. Isn't it better for us to speak out rather than letting it be? SlutWalk is not the ultimate solution, but it could be a start.

How can women reclaim their freedom?
Reclaiming 'freedom' doesn't mean running naked on the road to make a point. It means the right to feel safe at any place. Why ask women alone how they want to dress or behave? Doesn't it mean women are asking for sexual freedom, or the right to be out at 2 am?

It's about taking no for an answer. Wear the clothes you do, do the things you do. In a movement like this, where the message is 'Don't blame the victim', do support it.
