A 25-year-old man drove a car into the Kolshet Creek in Maharashtra's Thane on Tuesday afternoon with the intention of killing himself but was rescued in time, officials said.
The chief of the Disaster Management Cell Yasin Tadvi said the man drove his car into the creek around 4.30 pm.
One Mandeep Shilpakar, a local, saw it and rescued him, Tadvi said.
The man was drunk and wanted to commit suicide, said Inspector Sandeep Dhande of Kapurbawdi police station, adding that he was handed over to the family members after counselling.

Meanwhile, two men drowned in a waterfall in Shahpur tehsil of Maharashtra's Thane district on Tuesday evening, police said.
The incident took place at Mahuli Gad, Khor village, Inspector Samsher Tadvi of Vashind police station said.
The duo, along with a woman friend, were visiting the spot when one of them fell into the deep pool at the bottom of the waterfall and the other tried to save him. But both of them drowned, PTI reported.
After the woman alerted police, local fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and pulled out the bodies.
The deceased were identified as Kartik Nagbushan Reddy-Patil (22), who hailed from Andhra Pradesh, and Dhananjay Dattatrya Gaikwad (30), a resident of Murbad in the district. (Agencies)
