COVID-19: Mumbai's daily deaths drop; Maharashtra's cases rise to 60,000+

The situation in the state, however, remained worrisome. State health department registered 66,358 new cases on Tuesday and 895 fatalities, the highest death toll in Maharashtra since the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus last year.

The city's daily COVID-19 infections, which dropped to 3,876 on Monday, rose again on Tuesday with civic officials confirming 4,014 new cases. However, there was a dip in new casualties at 59. Also, 8,240 patients recovered and were discharged in a single day.

The situation in the state, however, remained worrisome. State health department registered 66,358 new cases on Tuesday and 895 fatalities, the highest death toll in Maharashtra since the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus last year. The state had confirmed 48,700 cases on Monday. Tuesday's cases were the lowest since March 23. The city's daily tally has remained on the lower side since seeing the highest spike of 11,163 cases on April 4. The number of active cases has reduced in the city, and about 66,000 patients are currently undergoing treatment.

Of the 59 deceased patients, 34 had comorbidities, 32 were senior citizens, 24 were aged between 40 to 60 and three were below 40 years of age. The recovery rate in the city has stabilised at 87 per cent and the doubling rate is now 68 days. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 10,031 cases on Tuesday, including the ones in Mumbai. It was slightly higher than Monday's tally. Thane recorded 796 cases, Navi Mumbai 626 and Kalyan-Dombivli 758. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, saw 59 deaths out of which 15 were in Raigad, 18 in Kalyan-Dombivli and 10 in Navi Mumbai.

In the state, Nashik circle reported the maximum number of cases at 17,064, Pune circle saw 12,215 and Nagpur 11,773. Of the 895 deaths, 143 were in Aurangabad city, out of which 139 are from before last week. Nashik reported 135 deaths, Latur 94, Pune 122 and Nagpur 126. A total of 67,752 patients were discharged across Maharashtra which now has 6.7 lakh active cases.
