The state transport department on Wednesday suspended the licences of 25 school buses and three autorickshaws plying schoolchildren. The offenders were also fined over Rs 32,000, reports the Times of India.

Following complaints by parents that ill-maintained and rashly-driven school buses and autorickshaws were ferrying their children, Regional Transport Office decided to swoop down on them.

"The speedometers, breaks, etc, of these buses and autorickshaws were in ruins. If they fail to comply with the prescribed norms, we will cancel their driving licences," state transport commissioner Deepak Kapoor said.
