A surrogate baby, said to be first in Thane, was delivered at a local fertility centre yesterday, doctors supervising the case said.
Sandeep Mane and his wife Rajashree, the doctor couple who has returned to the city from Britain, announced the birth of the surrogate baby at a media conference here.
Names of the couple and surrogate mother were, however, not revealed by the doctors. The couple told the mediapersons that since the last 15 years their family members wanted them to go for adoption which they avoided.
"Finally, we have our own child today," the cheerful couple said. The couple approached the Manes with their medical reports and other information in April 2008. The couple's first child had died during birth, while the second one died in the eight month.
Sandeep Mane and his wife Rajashree want to turn their facility, Origin the International Fertility Centre, into a Centre of Excellence and assist couples who are in need.
