Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, prime accused in 2008 Malegaon blast case, was sent to J J Hospitalu00a0yesterday following orders by a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court.

Thakur, who was lodged at Byculla jail, had filed an application seeking medical examination claiming she was suffering from indigestion because of poor quality of jail food.

Thakur's advocate had sent a legal notice to jail officials saying she was being given "substandard food which was not fit for human consumption''. It was also alleged that on one occasion, Thakur found a piece of egg in her food which made her vomit. The notice said that Thakur was a vegetarian and the egg violated her religious beliefs. Thakur, who has been in custody since October 2008, has been pleading in court that she be allowed to get food from home. A chargesheet has been filed against her and 10 others in the blast case.
